Introduction: Dashrath – King of Ayudha, Ram His elder Son, Laxman Brother to Ram, Dashrath had three wives named Kaushlya, Kakayi, and Sumitra. Ram was a son of Kaushlya, Bharat was a son of Kaikayi and Laxman was a son of Sumitra. Kaiyki wanted her son Bharat to take charge of Ayodhya, which otherwise going to Ram, as he was the eldest one. Kaikayi made a plan, by which Ram was asked to go into exile for 14 years into the Jungle so that her son Bharat could be coronated as King of Ayodhya.
Now, the story goes like this, Ram is preparing for the Jungle, and his brother Laxman is highly affectionate to Ram, so he decides to accompany him wherever Ram goes. Bharat also had a lot of respect for his elder brother Ram but is not available in Ayodhya to see all these happenings. Everyone is upset,, King Dashrath to everyone including the common people of Ayodhya, because Ram was not only elder son to Dashrath, but he was occupying the place in the heart of everyone. Besides all that, Ram got married recently to Sita and all this is happening for no reason. Any way Ram is highly obedient to his parents, so he, his wife Sita, and Laxman started their exile journey for 14 years into unknown places. Seeing this people are crying and weeping but what to do? Perhaps the only lady that must be happy was Queen Kakayi, as she is foreseeing her son as King of Ayodhya.
Soon Bharat returned and found that his two brothers and Devi Sita had already left. Bharat got highly upset and tried his best to call Ram to come back and take the command of the Ayodhya Kingdom, but Ram was not an ordinary man, he was the incarnation of Lord Vishnu and he said,, once promise has been given, he would return only after 14 years of his exile. When Bharat failed to convince him, he requested to Ram to give his pair of shoes (charan paduka) so that same could be placed on the throne and he would do the service by sitting down which meant for 14 years Bharat would be discharging his duties as Ram’s servant till he comes back and take the command of Ayodhya. Seeing Bharat returning alone without Ram was something that the people of Ayodhya went into a typical depression. King Dashrath also left for the heavenly abode, no one was happy in Ayodhya practically for the next 14 years.
Now traveling from one place to another Ram, Sita, and Laxman encountered many troubles and all the troubles were being sorted out as no one knew that ordinary-looking man Ram was Lord Ram, who had come to the earth for the accomplishment of one great purpose, which is being described at the end.
Other than Ayodhya, it was the great Kingdom of Demon King Ravan, who also had tremendous muscle power and was living in Lanka which was made of pure gold. This demon king had all army, and family and was an unbeatable King by that time. He was so powerful that no one was able to fight with him. This Demon King Ravan had ten heads and twenty arms and hence was named as Dashanan also. King Ravana had one sister named Shurprakha, and one day she had a fight with Laxman over some issues, Laxman then gave a cut to her nose, it led the beginning of war in between Ravana and Lord Ram. King Ravan did not realize that Ram is not an ordinary person, and he thought when everyone is afraid of him, how ordinary Ram, who had no weapon or army of his own could fight the mighty Ravana. But then destiny was on the side of Lord Ram, who was known for all good values and Ravan was known for bad values as without seeing good or bad, he started killing everyone that comes to his way. So finally evil Ravan with his ill-designed plan abducted Devi Sita, the wife of Lord Ram, which led to the final battle between them.
Ravana took Devi Sita to his Kingdom, which was far away in the South and it was surrounded by Sea, Jungles, and Mountains and it was difficult to reach there because at that time no such transport was available. Ravan was a master of various tricks by which he could take any form, he can appear from any corner, he could make several images, and so on. Ravan had more than lakh family members and uncountable people in the army to serve him. However Lord Ram prepared the army of monkeys and taking their support started exploring the Kingdom of Ravan as Devi Sita was abducted by Ravan. From the army of monkeys, a great monkey known as Hanuman had all divine powers and he was sent to the direction of South to locate the Kingdom of Ravan and to see where Devi Sita was. Hanuman enhancing his shape and size moved across the ocean and found the Kingdom of Ravan. He also traced out Devi Sita who was in the custody of Ravan. Hanuman met Devi Sita and assured her that Lord Ram soon will kill Ravan and she would be freed from the custody of Ravan. Hanuman then searched for the entire Kingdom so that he could inform everything to his Master Lord Ram. He wanted to see the mighty Ravan also and somehow entered his office, made certain remarks against Ravan deliberately, and as a result the Ravan ordered for lighting his tail, soon Hanuman started igniting the entire Lanka and after damaging Kingdom to a great extent went back, reported everything to Ram. Lord Ram then took all the monkeys and attacked the Kingdom of Ravan. Vibhishan,, the brother of Ravan knows well that Ram is not an ordinary man, but he is the Lord himself, tried his best to convince Ravan to return Devi Sita and ask for forgiveness from Lord Ram. But then Ravan did not listen to Vibhishan’s advice but rather insulted his brother for taking the side of Ram. Finally, with the help of Viobhishan, Ravan was killed by Lord Ram. The Vibhishan was made as King of Lanka and Lord Ram accompanied Sita and Laxman and with his army returned to Ayodhya completing his exile of 14 years. Meeting the Lord Ram, all people in Ayodhya rejoiced and celebrated the day of arrival as the Dipawali festival. Since then Dipawali festival has been celebrated in India with lights and firecrackers to welcome Lord Ram.
