Section 163 (161-163) Hit and Run Accidents, where vehicle number is not known, here payment to such cases shall be made by a fund created by the contribution of Government (Central + Central 30% and 70% by all insurers). This fund is available at the office of the District Collector. Application is to be given to an Officer (claims commissioner) nominated by the District Collector, who after receipt of intimation, investigates and pays to the victim or legal heirs this compensation which is Rs 12500 for causing grievous injury and Rs 25000 for causing death. Recently under amendments of 2022 now the amount has been increased to Rs one lakh and two lakh respectively.
